If I Didn't Know Better, I'd Say "These Kids Need to Get a Life" or "Only in Indiana"

But I do know better. Phew.

The Indy Channel:

25,000 Stolen Sauce Packets Returned To Taco Bell

Several masked people this week entered a Taco Bell restaurant and left six 40-gallon trash bags filled with apparently stolen sauce packets, Marion police said.

The bags, which contained 25,000 sauce packets, were accompanied with an apologetic note that said the packets were stolen over a three-year period.

The note's author wrote that the group felt guilty and decided to return the packets, police said.

And from the Chicago Sun Times:

Thousands of sauce packets returned to Taco Bell

August 14, 2006

MARION, Ind. -- Doesn't Taco Bell already have taco sauce?

Police say 10 to 15 pranksters left six 40-gallon trash bags full of taco sauce packets at the restaurant.

A note attached to the bags said the group had been accumulating them for three years, storing them in the trunk of a car, authorities said.

Police suspended an investigation Tuesday night in the city without any arrests, said Marion Deputy Police Chief Cliff Sessoms.

''From everything we've got here, there doesn't appear that there has been any crime committed,'' he said.

wow. i wonder how many sauce packets is considered stealing. when you go to taco bell there is no sign saying how many you can take...unless the sauces are behind the counter, which we all know is ghetto. i wonder if these "pranksters" stole the sauces when they were eating, or if they stole them by entering a taco bell and taking sauces without buying a meal. I suppose it's only stealing if you did not buy a meal...what do you think? cuz if not, then i am a criminal.

i'd say it's stealing if you didn't buy a meal...maybe but really, if it out there for the public to take, then it can't be considered "stealing", right? i think these "pranksters" ate at TB and love TB and are just like us and love the sauce and just thought it would be a cool thing to do. 3 years. that is a committment! props to them.

do you think they really felt guilty, though? i wish i had the note they left. TB probably can't reuse the packets because the ones from three years ago didn't have the "saucy" sayings on them.
